BOM Revisions and Part Bin Data

Hello Cetec Team,

We’re experiencing an issue with our BOM revisions that’s causing significant confusion.

We created three parts for the following BOM: Cetec ERP

Today, we created a new revision of the BOM (Revision B) and set it as the active revision.

The issue is that the three parts we previously created with Revision A (which I manually entered into Bin Data) are now linked to Revision B. You can see this by checking the BOM Breakdown in Bin Data, but this is incorrect and could lead to confusion. Can you explain why this is happening?

Is there a way to ensure that when a part is created, it stays tied to the revision of the BOM used at that time and doesn’t automatically update with the current revision?

Dont you just need to set the required revision of the part in the BOM to get that behavior.

Thanks Henrik for your answer and help!

I want ot clarify my problem.

For example, I have Subassembly A (SUB-A), which is made up of 8 parts according to its BOM. In my inventory, I currently have 3 SUB-A units.

Now, I’ve created a Revision 2 of the BOM, which includes 2 additional parts (making a total of 10 parts). As a result, the new SUB-A will be based on Revision 2.

However, it seems that the BOM for the pre-existing SUB-A units in my inventory automatically updated to Revision 2 as well. Therefore, even though my pre-existing SUB-A contains only 8 parts, Cetec is now showing that they contain 10 parts, based on Revision 2.

I’m not sure if what you mentioned will resolve this issue. Perhaps I’m missing something.

Thank you again!

Aha!
Now I see what you mean.
Unfortunatly I do not have any subasseblies with diffrent versions of the BOM in my inventory at the moment so I cannot easily recreate your problem.
Therefore I am not much help here.
I actually hadn’t noticed the BOM breakdown option under Bin data until you pointed it out.
But I do see why you are asking for this. You would like to find an easy way of knowing which type of sub-A you have in your inventory correct?

Yes, that correct. This will ensure that my Cetec inventory accurately reflects the physical subassemblies we have, and make it easier to verify the correct BOM for each subassembly in the inventory.

Thank you for your help!
