You are absolutely right @sisyfos in that there is no way to delete a custom document, and I agree with you that Cetec has an obligation to alert the user that when creating a new custom doc that it is irreversible. I do not see that in any documentation.
As per all of the posts that I have seen on Cetec forum & phone discussions with Cetec, this would be billable engineering time. I have a couple custom docs that I do not want to have showing (they were tests, at the time I was unaware that could not delete) so I hear you there.
@cetecerp – here are a few Cetec posts that I have found regarding this same issue
- (this post) Cannot remove custom document @sisyfos
- Inactive Custom Document @rana826
- renaming a document @angietesterman
- I have spoken with Cetec about this, whether it be over the phone or ticket I cannot recall and cannot find the ticket, but the answer was the same that it is billable.
Cetec documentation that lacks this detail: Custom Docs And Data Access
I believe it is necessary for Cetec to allow users to remove USER-defined/created custom documents from the custom document list because it causes confusion without any proper documentation. Even IF there was proper documentation that clearly stated that custom documents cannot be removed once created, there could be situations like such:
- Example 1) months ago when we first onboarded with Cetec I was taking a look at the custom docs and I created a ‘123.tt’ custom doc not knowing the re-percussion.
- Example 2) I was creating a specific custom doc that I wanted to have under /otd/order/ to show at the order line level but accidentally initially made it under /order/. This is when I asked Cetec if I could delete the one I made under /order/ and was given the response I explained. Now I have 2 custom docs with a very similar title under order lines and the main order document tab that could be confused (obviously one works and one does not because I deleted the actual .tt document so now it results in an error if you try to open the incorrect one).
I believe it is necessary for Cetec to allow users to rename user-defined/created custom documents if for example a current custom doc is going to be superceded or customized more specifically, to be replaced by a new document that is used in different situations. Or, in situations where a user makes a mistake in creating a custom doc to the wrong path and therefore wants to be able to rename it so there isn’t two custom docs (though different paths) with the same exact name.
I hope that this can further the need for the ability to at least make custom docs inactive so they don’t show up when not needed any more or if changes are made to the path itself. Our employees that are handling job processing can get confused by this. I will be submitting a ticket about this as well.
