Is there a report for excess/obsolete/orphaned material?
I can brute force what I want in Excel but its a bit of a hassle.
We have a 3,500 part numbers with some BOMs 7 or 8 levels deep. The parts are used in some, all, or perhaps no active FIG end products.
I’d like to know which parts are used exclusively in an inactive FIG part (e.g. where used is exclusive to that FIG).
I’d also like to know which parts were designed out of the FIG parts and no longer used anywhere.
i was exploring the something like the \parts–>reports–>component need across BOMs report
and \parts–>reports–>parts inventory usage
but there aren’t quite what i’m after or i’m not reading it right.
The 2nd report, the parts inventory usage report, would be super useful if it included a "next level up " BOM (e.g. the SUB) and “top level” BOM info (eg. the FIG). This report would also be useful for engineering when doing change orders so they could assess all products impacted more easily then going from the component BOM usage screen.
I think it does get us pretty far along. we do all internal build to forecast then ship end-items to customers, so it is not 100% perfect. The 12-month usage column is wildly off, for example. But between the QOH, QR, QOO, and Total Backlog columns, i think that it could help us start to get the job done.
There is a pretty big difference between the total number of parts we have (3845) and the number of parts on the report (1344). How should we interpret this gap? Is it only looking at parts that had demand and we might infer there are 2500 orphaned (or non-inventory) parts?
This same report looking at all parts would be much more powerful for us.
That 12 month column might be off because it does not look at intercompany orders (it is also cached data). You can run the report 12 months back and include those intercompany orders if wanted.
When I look at the historical demand list I see 3247 results (no filters set), vs the part list with 3845 results. I can try to drill down and see what the 598 part difference is here.
i had the QOH checkbox filled. When i uncheck that, i get a lot closer to the full list. That is probably good enough for now until my finance team comes back with more questions
