Let me dig through how you’ve set up that bonus column, work through some testing on our end, and see what needs to be done to get that to appear for you.
I’ll be in touch with an update once I’ve got some results to discuss.
I’ve done some testing here on these bonus columns you wanted to add and have some points of interest for you to check out. Regarding your request here “Ideally the amount of hours would be tied to each line item.” I was able to successfully link a bonus column for the part record over to the quote line itself automatically based on the value provided on the prcpart record.
Below are the steps that were used to do this, and some key factors in this process that you’ll need to follow:
I went into the bonus column page for the Part object, and added in a BC with a title of Installation Hours, and a technical title of installation_hours.
On the Quote Line installation hours bonus column there will be a field that populates after you add it to the quote line - “Object Types To Pull Values From” … select Part from that dropdown and hit ‘update’ … This is what pulls the values from the Part Record over to the Quote Line automatically.
I then went into the prcpart record’s Installation Hours bonus column I added and input a value of 5 in there for visual purposes:
I did not have to manually key in the Installation Hours value on the quoteline - this was pulled directly from the prcpart record when I added it there. This was due to me linking the Part bonus column to the Quote Line bonus column field using the Object Types To Pull Values From dropdown.
Again Jake… it’s key here that the bonus columns are setup exactly like each other on the two object types. The title for each field should be Installation Hours , and the technical_name field should be installation_hours for each object. On the quote line bonus column you add, you’ll select Part as the object type to pull values from.
Once you’ve set that up, you go into the part record & key in the Installation Hours value you want, and every time you add that part to a quote line it’ll pull that value over automatically.
Awesome! This worked out great. Thanks for the clear detailed instrucions.
The last request would be to have the ability to total the ‘Intallation Hours’ on the Quote. For example, If lines 1-5 all had 5 Installation Hours each, the total Install Hours would be 25 for the whole Quote. Many of our Quotes have 20 to 30 lines and being able to extract and total the hours would be a great help.
The difficulty here is the bonus column field that you generate (unless linked from one object to the other like I showed you with part – quote line) does not automatically update. That’s a manual field entry that you have to update yourself (or your team has to update).
You could tally up the hours that are pulled over automatically from the prcpart records to the quote line as you add them… but there isn’t a link from the prcpart to the quote header. The link from Quote header is derived from the ‘Customer’ bonus column page.
Another tip here, if you flag the quote line bonus column (installation hours) as searchable on it’s bonus column page, you can run the quote list report with the ‘View By:’ filter set to quote lines and you can run the report with those values represented there.
Final point here being if you added the installation hours BC to the quote header… that field must be manually updated via a user. Apologies there for the unfortunate news, but that’s the best we can provide at this time.
