Outside Service (unique application)

We weld trailer frames (roughly 8 per day) and send them out to zinc coating (the combo, when returned is an inventory sub assembly). We send the trailers to zinc in batches from 2 to 4 at a time (all different Cetec work orders, because they’re highly configurable). Our zinc plater will not break out the trailers as they use the total weight of all the delivered trailers to determine the cost of their work order (everything on the delivery trailer). The Cetec outside service PO won’t work for this process and I was wondering if anyone can think of an eloquent non labor intensive method to manage this process.

My thought would be to estimate the zinc cost for each trailer size and create a non-inventory BOM item that is issued to the job. Then cut a blanket PO line of 1 each LOT, ZINC PLATING (different non-inventory item) to transact the daily batch zinc trailer shipments and receipts. Just point both non-inventory items to the same specific outside service sub account.

Does this make sense?

Thanks, -Bill

Hi Bill,

Here’s one idea if you only need the pdf that you send to your vendor to show the lot charge. Internally you account for the individual costs. So you would create separate parts, e.g. LOT1, LOT2, LOT3, etc. that are the costs for plating your different trailers, and you would receive against these parts. These parts would be in your 8x BOMs. Then let the pdf formatter combine them into the pdf you send to your vendor as one line.

Feed your PO template to chatgpt/codex/claude (get it from admin > config settings > custom documents list). Tell it something like this prompt:
“In cetecerp, would it be possible to create a purchase order pdf template that, if there are line items with the same PRC code, would display them as one lot charge with a total amount equal to the sum of these line items?”

When I asked it this, chatgpt responded with something quite encouraging. Be sure to keep a backup of the original template. Worth a try.
