PartSpec Group hotswap

This is a follow-up from a previous post about part-spec groups.

  • I made a part spec group. See here

  • I enabled the “Allow Hotswap based on Partspec match” setting.

  • One of the parts in the part spec group is in this order, but we have zero quantity of this part on hand

  • The other part in the part spec group has plenty of quantity on hand.

  • The BOM has the part spec group enabled, and it matches the order specific BOM as well. See here and here.

I was expecting to go to the pick list and see it get “hotswapped” without having to select the other part in the order specific BOM from the drop-down list.. Is that not what the setting is supposed to do? We use this part in 6-7 assemblies and there are a lot of open orders for it, so this would save a lot of clicking around.

Thanks!

Hi @vikas - I saw your question here never got a response.

I understand your question, but technically the answer is No, that is not what the “hot swap” config is designed to do.

After seeing the alternative available component (highlighted on the MRP report), you can click into the alternates, which will take you to the Parts >> Reports >> Allocation List. The part spec hotswap setting lets you see the alternate available component in a dropdown menu in the allocation list, and actually “hot swap” the part from the allocation list itself (which makes the Order Specific BOM update for you). So it is “semi” automatic, but does involve some user intervention.

I hope this helps clarify!

Thanks

Thanks! I had not used that report before. That should help on our end. One suggestion is have a filter in this report to show only the parts that have a “Part Spec Replacement”.. otherwise, we have >8000 lines in this table. But we can at least filter by part or navigate to here like through the MRP report (I’ll try that next time we run MRP).
