prcpart search on Parts List

Is it possible to separate the search fields on the parts list into 2 fields - part number and description?
There are times that we have hundreds of part numbers with the same prefix and just a dash-something suffix to differentiate it.
When searching on that part prefix to find the full part, it would be helpful if the description search was a separate field.

Having the search by part and description in the same field seems more of a hindrance than a help.

This is a suggestion that might help all companies. We are not asking for a custom fix.

Thank you.

I second that!

As of today the only option you have is to add a bonus column yourself and make it searchable.
This would be awesome if you could have edited the order in which the forms where you perform your search would be editable, so that you could move you bonus column to be one of the first.
Sadly that is not the case.

How one would have loved to have access to the .css file so one could have fixed the layout in so many places!

I really think that Cetec is the best ERP/MRP around, but the GUI lacks focus on efficiency when working with it.
All functions you need are there but working with them are clunky.

The bonus column to search descriptions was the solution suggested to me by support too. That is kind of…Why would we want to make users put the description in 2 separate fields just to be able to search it? Adding the description to the search criteria should literally be a 10 minute job.

Oh… but hang on. The description is a part of the search criteria.

The problem is that the description is not a separate search field. If you wanted to search a part number that was 1SB902-X345 and there are over 500 parts with that part number, with a -### suffix, each representing different engravings on that part number, you need to page through tons of parts to find the one that you want. If there was a second field for description, you could do an “AND” search for a description with the word “flute”. This would either bring up the exact part or else cut the list down.

Searching on “flute” alone could bring up hundreds of results too.

Our people are having this exact issue multiple times a day, and we have only been using the system live for a week. They are very frustrated.

Ah yes exactly it searches either or not and.
To make matters worse the OEM part field that could be used as such a field is hidden by default so you have to press more options first to be able to use it.

So I agree that this is less thatn optimal.
